Amitabh Bachchan & Shashi Kapoor’s Deewar Scene Gets A Twist, Leaves PM Narendra Modi Smiling
The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is one of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s key projects and he ensures that it finds a mention in his speeches. Hence, when he saw a creative way of spreading a word about the mission, he made sure he responded to it.

The story goes thus. A poster showing a scene from Amitabh Bachchan, Shashi Kapoor starrer iconic 1975 film Deewar was put up by the Nainital Municipal Corporation to encourage people to build toilets in their home.

It had an innovative twist to the scene which originally featured brothers Amitabh and Shashi Kapoor arguing with each other after their mother decides to live with 'honest' son Ravi (Shashi Kapoor) abandoning Vijay (Amitabh Bachchan) who took to crime to earn money.

While in the film maa Nirupama Roy sides with Shashi Kapoor, the poster showed her possessing a different priority. "Nahi, jo pehle shauchalaya banaega, main uske saath rahoongi (I will stay with whoever builds a toilet first).

Evidently humoured by the creativity, Narendra Modi took to Twitter to share the poster and wrote, “Haha! Borrows from cinema to make a point on cleanliness. Innovative (sic).”

The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan or Clean India Movement was launched on October 2, 2014. The campaign aims at maintaining cleanliness on the streets, roads, and infrastructure of the country. The campaign boasts to be India's largest ever cleanliness drive with 3 million government employees participating in it.

This is not the first time that cinema as been used as a medium to promote "Clean India" project.

Last year, the Howrah Division of Eastern Railways came up with movie posters urging commuters to keep trains, platforms and environment clean.

In one such poster, Sholay's Gabbar Singh is curious about the penalty for disposing waste at a wrong place. His accomplice Sambha responds by saying, "purey 500" (Rs 500).
